Frequently Asked Questions

  • An initial free fifteen minute consultation will be scheduled for you to meet the therapist and discover if you might be a good fit. In addition, we encourage people to be open in asking questions and assessing your connection during the first couple of sessions to help determine if the therapist is right for you. Studies have repeatedly shown that the most important variable in therapy resulting in the greatest amount of change is the quality of the connection and the relationship between the therapist and the client. Finding the correct fit of a therapist for yourself is essential. If at any time the therapist is unable to provide you with adequate services fitting your individual needs or you decide you may feel more comfortable working with another mental health professional, the therapist will be able to refer you to a more appropriate source of treatment.

  • The therapist at Flowing Pathways conducts online sessions in a private space using secure, password protected laptops through a secure and trusted HIPAA compliant telemedicine platform. Clients are also directed to have their online sessions using their computer or phone in a private space to ensure privacy. It is of the utmost importance to do everything we can to maintain confidentiality and safeguard your private information.

  • Due to licensing restrictions, most mental health professionals are only able to treat clients who are physically in the state they are licensed in at the time of the appointments. Currently, the Flowing Pathways’ therapist is licensed in the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. If you are a college student or an individual who is not in these states for part of the year, Flowing Pathways would not be able to provide services during those times you are away.

  • Unfortunately, it’s not possible to say exactly how long therapy will take since everyone’s circumstances are unique and the duration and frequency of therapy is dependent on many variables. We will work together on identifying your goals and collaborate with one another each step of the way. Most individuals find it helpful to meet weekly, particularly in the beginning, in order to regularly address topics and make changes.

  • The fee at Flowing Pathways for a standard 50-55 minute individual session is $135. Payment in full is due at the time of service for individual therapy. There is a cancellation policy. If you are unable to attend an individual session, you are required to cancel the appointment at least 24 hours beforehand to avoid a cancellation charge. Part of the intake process to become a client receiving individual therapy includes being provided with and signing a Consent to Treatment contract which will have more detailed and specific information on fees.

Under the “No Surprise Act”, you are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of the expected charges of psychotherapy services. For more information visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises. The “Good Faith Estimate” is based on the standard session rate and the anticipated length and frequency of your services determined by the treatment plan developed between you and your therapist.

  • At this time, Flowing Pathways is not a participating provider on any insurance panels. If you prefer to access treatment through your insurance coverage, contact your plan for a list of referrals. Some PPO insurance plans have out-of-network mental health benefits for partial reimbursement typically after an annual deductible is met. If you are eligible for this benefit and would like to use it at Flowing Pathways, we can provide you with an invoice on a monthly basis you can submit to the insurance plan.

  • The schedule fluctuates and is dependent on current openings at any given time. Please indicate your availability and preferred appointment times when you reach out.

  • While expressive art therapy techniques are sometimes incorporated in individual counseling sessions when appropriate and therapeutic art-making is utilized during the therapeutic wellness workshop offerings, Flowing Pathways does not provide art therapy. The wellness programs have some similar aspects of art therapy in that they are geared to provide mindfulness and creativity skills, relaxation, and education that promotes positive wellbeing but they are less clinically focused than art therapy sessions.
